ICICI Bank is a multinational bank and financial service company with the center of operations in Mumbai, India.
Following Independence from British rule in 1948, when the country’s GDP was at its lowest, exports truncated, dollar funding was scarce, and high reliance on imports put India in turmoil. A confluence between RBI (Reserve Bank of India) and the World Bank gave birth to the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India Ltd popularly known today as ICICI Bank.
The next decade was focused entirely on providing financial assistance to businesses like Reliance Textiles and laid a stepping stone in Housing Finance, the dream of owning a house for every Indian. They funded a part of the initial capital to HDFC – the largest private bank in the country today.
ICICI Bank began its trading journey in the stock market in September 1997.
Back in 1999, ICICI Bank became the first Indian company from non-Japan Asia to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
ICICI bank again created history becoming the first bank to provide Internet Banking Services to Individuals and Corporates to make all the transactions without visiting the branch. It was also the first bank to come with Mobile banking for its customers.
At present, ICICI Bank is India’s second-largest bank considering its total assets. When asked about the future odds, Sandeep Bakhshi (MD & CEO, ICICI Bank) said “The business Banking Portfolio grew by 34.9% YoY and 7.8% sequentially. We see many opportunities to drive loan growth and grow market share across all segments. We will continue to make investments in Technology, people, distribution, and building our brand.”
