Infosys is a global leader in next-generation digital services and consulting. The company has been dominating the IT-services sector for more than 3 decades now.
Back in 1981, the idea was big, but the beginning was humble. Co-founder Narayana Murthy’s wife, Sudha, had saved up a small sum of ₹ 10,250 ($125 today) which was only to be used in case of a family emergency.
She lent the money to her husband, who along with six other software professionals went on to build one of the world’s largest IT companies.
12 years after it was founded, Infosys listed at the Bombay Stock Exchange at ₹ 145 per share (share price adjusted for share split and bonus).
During the dot-com boom, the share price shot up nearly 200 times.
Among other achievements, Infosys was the first Indian company to be listed on NASDAQ (American stock exchange) .
Currently, Infosys is a large but steadily growing company. When asked about the near-term future prospects, Sahil Parikh (current CEO, Infosys) said “For Infosys, last quarter, we had good growth, we in fact increased our guidance. We think two drivers for growth. One is the continuing work on digital and cloud and the second is much more on cost efficiency and automation. So we are seeing a real thrust on that as well. We believe we are well positioned for that. So from our perspective, we think the growth will continue.”
