L&T Technology Services (LTTS) was founded in the year 2006, and was listed at the stock exchanges in 2016. The company is a subsidiary of the iconic Larsen & Toubro group.
The LTTS IPO share price was ₹ 860. It has been a consistent compounder, creating wealth for its investors. When the company listed way back in the year 2016, the market capitalization was ₹ 9100 crore. At the time of this writing, the company is valued at more than ₹ 60,000 crore.
For long term investors, the journey hasn’t always been a comfortable one – investing is never comfortable or easy, is it? It all looks easy in hindsight but, having to go through all the ups and downs.. seeing all the gains disappear is tough.
The best run for LTTS was post-Covid when the IT sector boomed – the share price went up more than 5 times from the Covid lows to hit an all time high of ₹ 5995 in January 2022.
Immediately after this, the price crashed 50%. It has taken more than 2.5 years for LTTS to recover and set a new all-time high in August 2024.
Let us assume someone invested 10 lakhs in LTTS during the IPO at ₹ 860 per share. Nearly 4 years after listing, the share price was back to ₹ 1000 during the Covid crash. The 4-year returns were lower than Fixed deposit.
If an investor lost patience here and exited the stock, he would have missed the 5x rally – which took the 10 lakh investment to nearly 70 lakhs at its all time high.
Many would have sold in between. But those who held on, saw his investment valued at 70 lakhs go down to 35 lakhs in just 6 months (January to July 2022). Those who sold, would again see the stock make a complete recovery and go back to its all time high.
Inspite of all the ups and downs, the returns have been outstanding for those who have held on. 10 lakhs to 70 lakhs in 8 years – this is compound returns (CAGR) of more than 27% – this means your money is doubling every 3 years.
