Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited (RCF) is a manufacturer of chemicals and fertilisers, owned by the Government of India (75% stake).
A government-owned company has historically given poor returns in India – but that changed in the years after Covid when stock prices of PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) companies sky-rocketed, giving investors returns which would take a couple of decades in a couple of years.
RCF has been no exception. The stock did reasonably well in the 2003-2007 bull market, hitting a high of ₹ 150 in January 2008.
It took 191 months (16 years long years) for share price to break the previous high – which it did in the month of December 2023.
In between, investors have seen several ups and downs with the RCF share price hitting a multi-decade low of ₹ 22 during the Covid market-crash in March 2020.
