Tesla is a renowned, US-based, global automobile and renewable energy sources company.

It was established in 2003 by Martin Eberhard along with Marc Tarpenning. It started with the initial name as, Tesla Motors.

However, the most popular name in this company – Elon Musk, entered in 2004, made a $6.5 million investment, and ended up taking over as CEO in 2008. The mission of the company was to hasten the generation of renewable energy.

Tesla’s journey began in 2008 with the Roadster sports car and has since been accompanied by:

  • Model 3
  • Cybertruck
  • Model Y
  • Model X
  • Model S
  • Tesla Semi truck

The Model 3, which was launched in 2017, became the world’s greatest electric vehicle sold, selling one million units by June 2021.

The fact that Tesla’s earnings in 2022 was $81.46 billion, principally from electric car sales, demonstrates the company’s potential and commitment to environmental goals.

By obtaining SolarCity in 2016, Tesla entered the clean energy space, and its Gigafactories, which include locations in China, Germany, and Texas, demonstrated global expansion. Prominently, Tesla became one of the most valued car manufacturers in the world in 2023, with an 18% share of the battery EV market in 2022.

Tesla diversified its profit centres beyond electric vehicles by selling government-awarded tax credits, which contributed to its first-ever profit in July 2021. The company has been involved in a number of controversies, including SEC issues stemming from Elon Musk’s tweets in 2018 and over 1,000 lawsuits alleging whistleblower retaliation, worker rights violations, and product defects.

Tesla’s founding vision was to revolutionize the automobile market by developing superior electric vehicles. The company originated with the goal of outperforming existing vehicles in terms of comfort, mileage, and quality.

Despite the fact that Elon Musk was not the original founder of Tesla, his strategic influence propelled the company to become the world’s most successful electric vehicle manufacturer.

Tesla’s involvement in clean energy has grown with the introduction of solar panels, solar shingles, and battery energy storage systems. Acquisitions such as SolarCity and forays into energy generation expanded the company’s focus beyond electric vehicles.

Tesla’s success can be seen in its market capitalisation, which is expected to reach $1 trillion in October 2021. Tesla is the 6th US company to achieve that milestone.

Tesla models, from the Roadster to the Cybertruck, represent technological advances.

Even through controversies and legal challenges, Tesla’s story reflects a paradigm shift in transportation and energy, firmly establishing the company as a key player in the automotive and clean energy landscapes.
